RECONNECT TO THIS WORLD

When I was a child
I didn't think about pollution
I wasn't anxious about wars or poverty
Then after awhile I searched for solutions
Decades of worry really got to me

So I let it all go
Stopped thinking about it
Just been letting the chips fall where they may
Flip that switch if you want to i won't doubt it
They've been selling tomorrow to pay for today

Now I'm trying to reconnect to this world
I'm not even sure what that means
But I'm trying to reconnect to this world
From a distance behind the scenes

Look here at this tree
Its limbs are long and twisted
The roots cracked the cement out into the street
I doubt if it cares about a thing that's ever existed
But its shade is a nice way to escape from this heat

So I'm trying to reconnect to this world
I'm not even sure what that means
Still I'm trying to reconnect to this world
From a distance behind the scenes

Don't ask me to sign your new petition
Don't ask me to give my money away
Don't tell me about your sad condition
Don't tell me where or when I need to pray

No one here can say
They know for sure what's coming
Yes I've heard a lot of talk about prophecy
I'm not headed the same way that most of you are running
I don't believe you can't escape from your destiny

Now I'm trying to reconnect to this world
Though I'm not even sure what that means
Still I'm trying to reconnect to this world
But from a distance behind the scenes
